Voice journaling with dysphoria-aware TTS — Apple Siri misgendered trans users for years before fix, Google TTS binary voice options only until 2023, voice dysphoria is a documented barrier to voice-based accessibility tools.

Community & Lifestyle
ReplacesApple Siri (binary pronouns until iOS 17) / Google TTS (binary options until 2023) / Amazon Polly (still binary labeled)

Apple Siri used binary he/she pronoun defaults that misgendered nonbinary and trans users for years — Apple added they/them support only in iOS 17 (2023). Google Text-to-Speech offered only binary voice options (Male/Female) until 2023. Amazon Polly's voice options are still labeled 'Male' and 'Female' with no nonbinary option. For trans people experiencing voice dysphoria — distress triggered by hearing one's own voice — voice journaling and TTS tools built on binary voice assumptions are not just unhelpful but actively harmful. ADHD and dyslexia affect approximately 15-20% of the population; voice input is documented as significantly more accessible for these populations. WanderVoice is voice journaling with dysphoria-aware TTS: voice options that are not labeled by gender, voices that can be customized to reduce dysphoria triggers, and transcription that runs entirely locally via faster-whisper.

  • Dysphoria-aware TTS: voice options not labeled Male/Female — pitch, timbre, speed customizable
  • On-device transcription: faster-whisper runs locally — your voice journal never sent to Apple/Google/Amazon
  • Voice journal with Luen AI prompts: guided reflection without cloud processing
  • ADHD/dyslexia accessibility: voice input eliminates the barrier of written expression
  • No binary voice assumptions: Siri/Google/Polly binary model explicitly rejected
  • Real-time transcription: speak, see words appear, edit — no upload wait
  • WanderMind integration: voice journaling as mental health tool with mood correlation
  • WanderStory integration: voice journal entries feed memoir with transcription
  • Playback at adjusted speed: review your own recordings at a comfortable pace
  • Privacy: your voice recordings are the most intimate data — local-only, no exceptions

Repair & refurb

Send it back. Prepaid label. Component-level repair, module upgrades, firmware updates. 7-year spare parts guarantee. Donate on return — refurbished hardware goes to shelter and community partners. GPL firmware: the device works even if WanderVerse shuts down.

No hardware subscription — ever

BMW charged $18/mo for heated seats already in your car. GM locked remote start. Eero charges for VPN on hardware that could run it free. We don't do that. You bought it, you own it — every feature works forever, no subscription required. WanderAssist ($9/mo optional) is a convenience layer, never a gate. Safety features are never paywalled.

Pro & Lux tiers — coming

Every WanderVerse hardware product will offer Pro and Lux finish tiers — premium materials and handcrafted finishes by WanderVerse Artisans: supported employment workers with artistic skills. Each Lux unit ships with a Finished By card. Lux revenue cross-subsidizes nonprofit pricing.
