600,000 people are released from US prisons every year into a system designed to make failure inevitable. ChexSystems, used by 80%+ of banks to screen account applicants, flags arrests and convictions — people with records are effectively banned from basic banking for years post-release, driving them to check cashers at 1-3% per transaction. Ankle monitors cost $3.15/day on average, billed to the wearer — supervision fees become a debt trap for people with no income in their first weeks of release. Securus Technologies, the dominant prison phone carrier, charged $22.56 per 15 minutes before FCC 2021 reform caps; implementation is still incomplete and some state facilities still charge exploitative rates. The first 72 hours post-release are the highest-recidivism window: people leave with $25-50, no ID, no phone, and need to navigate housing, employment, benefits, and supervision simultaneously. WanderReentry covers the full stack with a document vault accessible by advocate when someone is inside, so the day of release isn't also the first day of preparation.

  • Legal document vault: designated advocate access when incarcerated — day-one release prep starts inside
  • ID replacement pathway: birth certificate → SSN card → state ID, sequenced, by state timeline
  • Banking access: ChexSystems screen explained, second-chance accounts by institution, CDFI alternatives
  • Housing: ban-the-box navigation by state, reentry housing programs, Section 8 reentry pathway
  • Employment: fair chance employer directory + record clearing by state + background check rights
  • Ankle monitor tracker: $3.15/day average fee — conditions documented, rights documented, payment logged
  • Benefits restoration: SNAP ban by conviction type, Pell Grant restoration (2023 reform), Medicaid reactivation
  • First 72 hours kit: what you need, where to get it, what order, who helps — highest-recidivism window
  • Parole/probation conditions navigator: what you're restricted from, how to document violations of your rights
  • WanderLearn integration: juvenile justice settings, school-to-prison pipeline prevention

Repair & refurb

Send it back. Prepaid label. Component-level repair, module upgrades, firmware updates. 7-year spare parts guarantee. Donate on return — refurbished hardware goes to shelter and community partners. GPL firmware: the device works even if WanderVerse shuts down.

No hardware subscription — ever

BMW charged $18/mo for heated seats already in your car. GM locked remote start. Eero charges for VPN on hardware that could run it free. We don't do that. You bought it, you own it — every feature works forever, no subscription required. WanderAssist ($9/mo optional) is a convenience layer, never a gate. Safety features are never paywalled.

Pro & Lux tiers — coming

Every WanderVerse hardware product will offer Pro and Lux finish tiers — premium materials and handcrafted finishes by WanderVerse Artisans: supported employment workers with artistic skills. Each Lux unit ships with a Finished By card. Lux revenue cross-subsidizes nonprofit pricing.
