FetLife has documented failures in handling abuse reports — investigations have found that predator accounts remained active after multiple reports. FetLife's privacy policy allows data sharing with advertisers, meaning kink interests, group memberships, and scene participation are treated as advertising inventory. After FOSTA-SESTA (2018), Tumblr banned adult content, Reddit banned NSFW communities, and Craigslist closed personal ads — a documented mass deplatforming of consent-based communities while doing nothing documented to reduce trafficking. Pseudonymity in kink communities is not a preference — it is survival: loss of housing, employment, and custody in documented cases when vanilla lives and kink identities intersect.
