Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices — speech-generating technology for people who are nonverbal or have limited speech — cost $8,000-$14,000 through medical supply channels, with insurance coverage often denied. Open hardware alternatives built on Raspberry Pi and off-the-shelf touchscreens deliver equivalent function for under $200. The e-NABLE community has printed over 10,000 prosthetic hands globally using freely shared 3D print files. Adaptive controllers for gaming and computer access are commercially available for $100-$400 but the designs are proprietary — the open hardware community has produced equivalents for $30-$50 in parts. WanderForge is the hub for this ecosystem: open hardware designs for assistive devices, community fabrication coordination, WanderTrack and WanderCompass enclosure files, and the Alchemy Deck print-on-demand store which is revenue-ready. DNS fix pending (same Namecheap CNAME as WanderThestars).

  • Open hardware library: assistive device specs, enclosure files, wiring diagrams — community-maintained
  • e-NABLE model: 10,000+ prosthetics printed — WanderForge hosts LGBTQ+-specific adaptive designs
  • Adaptive controller specs: gaming and computer access for $30-$50 in parts
  • WanderTrack enclosure files: print your own wearable case
  • WanderCompass enclosure files: print your own off-grid navigation device
  • OctoPrint / Klipper integration: 3D printer management for community fabrication nodes
  • Community fabrication coordination: people with printers + people who need parts + designs
  • DNS pending: Namecheap CNAME fix required — same fix as WanderThestars, live at same time
Hand-assembled

Built by supported employment workers — people with intellectual disabilities, autism, and physical disabilities — through WWP's fulfillment program. Every product ships with a Built By card. Competitive wage, never 14(c) subminimum.

Repair & refurb

Send it back. Prepaid label. Component-level repair, module upgrades, firmware updates. 7-year spare parts guarantee. Donate on return — refurbished hardware goes to shelter and community partners. GPL firmware: the device works even if WanderVerse shuts down.

No hardware subscription — ever

BMW charged $18/mo for heated seats already in your car. GM locked remote start. Eero charges for VPN on hardware that could run it free. We don't do that. You bought it, you own it — every feature works forever, no subscription required. WanderAssist ($9/mo optional) is a convenience layer, never a gate. Safety features are never paywalled.

Pro & Lux tiers — coming

Every WanderVerse hardware product will offer Pro and Lux finish tiers — premium materials and handcrafted finishes by WanderVerse Artisans: supported employment workers with artistic skills. Each Lux unit ships with a Finished By card. Lux revenue cross-subsidizes nonprofit pricing.
