About

Google scans Google Drive files for policy violations and has complied with law enforcement requests for Drive content — documented in criminal cases where Drive files were used as evidence. Apple's iCloud content scanning, originally proposed for CSAM detection, was extended to general content moderation in 2024. Dropbox suffered a breach in November 2022 exposing 130,000 customer records including names and email addresses. Microsoft OneDrive's Copilot integration in 2024 means Microsoft AI now scans your documents for feature training by default. Every major cloud storage provider scans your files, shares with law enforcement on subpoena, and has suffered at least one significant breach.
